About Tents2Homeless

Michael Meehan, founder of Tents2Homeless, is from Middletown, Ohio. Michael was an entrepreneur at the early age of 8 years old buying a 52 customer TV Guide route for five dollars. In High School he had a lawn and tree service, paper route and worked nights as a waiter.

In 1984, Michael enrolled in Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, but rarely attended classes. Instead, he ran a house painting business hiring his fraternity brothers at $4 per
hour and charging customers $7.50 per hour per man. The fraternity brothers were the worst workers, they always demanded to work in the sun so they could get a tan while they worked.

After college in 1989, Michael moved to Atlanta and started a contracting and real estate business. However, before he made any money, he slept in his car and on the tops of picnic tables. After waking up wet every morning from the dew, he realized the need for a tent to keep him dry.

In the 90’s, Michaels’ office building in Atlanta was next to a railroad track where many homeless people lived. They used cardboard boxes for shelter, but once the cardboard got wet it was no longer useful. So he started giving them used tents that people would donate.

In 2020, Michael started buying dozens of tents on Amazon for $20 each. Then he drove around Atlanta giving the tents out to the homeless. He soon realized they need much more than a tent, they need survival gear, such as portable lighting, a heat source for cooking and a sleeping bag.

In 2022, Michael started Tents2Homeless to gather donations to give more tents and survival gear to people in need. All the money donated goes to helping the homeless.
